Asobi : Leisure Activities
The summer program will focus upon ASOBI GOKORO, sensibilities of play.
Schedule:
July 9th: Tanabata – Star Festival
To make wishes on July 7th TANABATA, people write their wishes on colorful oblong cards, hang them on bamboo trees and put out side of their house.
July 16th: Lecture: “The Wonder and History of Japanese Kites”
Lecturer: Mrs. Alison Redfoot- Assistant Director for Education at CSULB’s Earl Burns Miller Japanese Garden
July 23rd: Craft: Kite Making and Flying
Interactive follow-up to last week’s lecture. All student will make their own kite and fly them
July 30th: Food: Okonomiyaki (Japanese Style Pancake)
Okonomiyaki is an example of Japanese cuisine that allows people to “play” with food. Students will learn about and make their own simple okonomiyaki.
Aug 6th: Project : KOI (Carp)Story of Koi, Making a big Koi mural
How Koi-fish became a part of a sophisticated lifestyle of the rich and how they raise the gorgeous fish.
Aug 13th: Games:
Students of all levels will learn and use Japanese words in games.
Aug 20th: Last class of the program. Regular class only.
